Trump, Flynn to spread fear of Islam: Analyst

“Trump apparently is ready to turn US foreign policy around to return to scapegoating Muslims and pretending there is this imaginary threat from the world of Islam that does not exist,” says American political analyst Kevin Barrett.

US President-elect Donald Trump and retired Lieutenant General Michael Flynn are planning to spread fear of Islam to forward their own agenda, says Kevin Barrett, an American scholar.

Barrett made the remarks on Friday, after reports emerged that Trump had picked Flynn as his National Security Adviser.

As the former head of US military intelligence, Flynn has made it clear that he has a real issue with Muslims.

“I’ve been at war with Islam, or a component of Islam, for the last decade,” the retired general once said.

Before selecting him for the position, Trump had once considered Flynn, a registered Democrat, to be his running mate for the presidential face-off with his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton.

“Trump apparently is ready to turn US foreign policy around to return to scapegoating Muslims and pretending that there is this imaginary threat from the world of Islam that does not exist,” Barrett told Press TV.

The Republican president-elect made anti-Islamic remarks the cornerstone of his campaign, threatening to take extreme measures against Muslims.

He proposed a ban on all Muslims entering the US in order to prevent terror attacks on US mainland.

Trump also voiced total opposition to President Barack Obama’s plans to take in Syrian refugees, saying that they were like a “Trojan horse” and had ties to the Daesh (ISIL) terror group.

He has also suggested special IDs for Muslim Americans and a database to better track them.

“This imaginary enemy of Islam has utterly destroyed America’s geo-strategic policy which should be focusing on American interest, but instead has been on a wild goose chase all over the world,” Barrett said.

“He (Flynn) says he is at war with Islam, well at some point Muslims are going to have to stand up and fight back and actually go to war,” the analyst continued. “They haven’t yet but if that ever happens it would be thanks to the complete idiocy of people like Donald Trump and Michael Flynn.”

In 2014, President Barack Obama fired Flynn from his position as the director of US Defense Intelligence Agency over his leadership style. Flynn, however, said it was his approach to Islam that led to his firing.
