Iran water polo team defeated by Kazakhstan in Asia Championship

The Iranian men’s national water polo team has suffered its first defeat at the group stage of the 10th edition of Asian Swimming Championships in Japan, slumping to the strong Kazakh outfit.

On Tuesday, the Iranian side suffered a dramatic loss, and went down to the Kazakhs 4-14 in a Group A fixture at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium indoor pool.

Iran had defeated Singapore 8-4 in its opening match the previous day.

The Iranian men’s national water polo team is scheduled to face Hong Kong in its third match at the tournament on Wednesday.

The 10th edition of Asian Swimming Championships opened in Tokyo, Japan, on November 14, and will come to a close on November 20, 2016.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has been pitted against Hong Kong, Kazakhstan and Singapore in Group A.

Group B consists of China, the hosts Japan, the Philippines and Saudi Arabia.

The Iranian team consists of Omid Lotfpour, Mahdi Yazdankhah, Amin Ghavidel, Arshia Almasi, Ali Pirouzkhah, Soheil Rostamian, Amir Hossein Kayhani, Hamed Malekkhanbanan, Mohammad Javad Abbasi, Amir Dehdari, Payman Assadi, Amir Hosserin Rahbar and Shayan Ghasemi-Darian. The outfit is under the tutelage of Serbian head coach Aleksandar Ćirić.
