Iranian weightlifters have maintained their commendable performance at the 2016 Asian Youth & Junior Weightlifting Championships in Japan, and been awarded nearly a dozen medals.

On Tuesday, Alireza Dehqan made a clean sweep of all the available gold medals in the 105-kilogram weight category of the competitions in the Japanese capital city of Tokyo.

Dehqan bagged the snatch gold with 170 kilograms; and his compatriot Payman Jaan elevated 158 kilograms overhead to take away the silver. A representative from China secured the bronze medal, having lifted up 152 kilograms.

Dehqan hoisted 206 kilograms in the clean and jerk contests and conquered the top podium. Iran’s Jaan raised 201 kilograms and finished in the second place, while the Chinese athlete settled for the bronze with a lift of 165 kilograms.

Dehqan edged his compatriot to the gold medal with an aggregate of 376 kilograms. Jaan’s overall tally hit 359 kilograms and landed in the second spot, while the Chinese competitor secured the aggregate bronze medal with 317 kilograms.

The Iranian athletes’ gains came a day after Ramin Valipour struck silver medals in all the three events of the 85-kilogram class.

Valipour lifted 151 kilograms to claim the snatch silver medal for the Islamic Republic of Iran.

He clinched silver in the clean and jerk with a lift of 187 kilograms, and Aref Khaki – another Iranian participant in this division -- received the bronze for 186 kilograms.

Later on, Valipour stood on the second podium for an aggregate of 338 kilograms, and was followed by Khaki with his aggregated tied on 328 kilograms.

The 2016 Asian Youth & Junior Weightlifting Championships opened in Tokyo on November 11, and will finish on November 15.
