Netherlands have cruised past home side Luxembourg 3-1 in Group A of the World Cup qualifiers in Europe, courtesy of a brace from Manchester United’s Memphis Depay.

Arjen Robben celebrated his year-long comeback from horrific injuries, with a composed one-on-one finish, giving the Dutch the lead 36 minutes into the first half.

But the hosts were awarded a penalty and Luxembourg's defender Maxime Chanot sent the goalie the wrong way to level the match just before the break.

The table turned in the visitors favor when Memphis Depay came off the bench to score twice for his team with a header and a free kick to seal a 3-1 win.

The Netherlands are now in second place, three behind leaders France, and above third placed Sweden on goal difference.
