The Iranian military’s top brass says the Islamic Republic is powerful enough in the area of missile technology to prevent enemies from carrying out any acts of aggression against the country.

On Thursday, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri said, “Due to the foresight of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, our missile might has reached a point where it does not allow the enemies to even think about attacking Iran.”

The senior Iranian general further highlighted the country’s major achievements in the field of missile industry and said any claim about “threatening the Islamic Republic of Iran in the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf is a mere joke” as today, various divisions of the Iranian armed forces enjoy the same level of power that the country has in the missile defense area.

Iran remains watchful of enemy moves while pursuing its own interests without casting covetous eyes on its neighbors’ soil, said the general, adding that the Islamic Republic is also proud of giving a helping hand to those in need against terrorists and the global arrogance.

Elsewhere in his remarks, General Baqeri played down US president-elect Donald Trump’s harsh anti-Iran rhetoric during his election campaign, saying, “That person, who has just risen to power, has talked off the top of his head.”

Back in September, Trump threatened that he would order the US Navy to open fire on Iranian boats if they approached US warships in the Persian Gulf.

The senior Iranian commander further recalled the arrest of US sailors by Iranian naval forces early this year, saying the American president-elect should first ask US navy commanders about the January incident before making such statements against the Islamic Republic.

In January, Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Navy arrested the crews of two US patrol boats that had trespassed into Iranian territorial waters. Iran released them after making sure that they had done so by mistake.

Iran has in recent years made great achievements in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing essential military equipment and systems.

The Islamic Republic has repeatedly assured other states that its military might poses no threat to other countries since the Islamic Republic’s defense doctrine is based entirely on deterrence.
