Former US official gets 20 yrs in prison for child porn

A former US intelligence official is sentenced to 20 years in prison over child pornography.

A former official with the US intelligence agency has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for producing child pornography.

The District Court in the US state of Virginia made the ruling on Tuesday, convicting Army Lieutenant Colonel Steven Frederiksen of luring six girls, aged between 14 and 17, into producing indecent photos and videos through social media on his government laptop.

The 42-year-old former official with the Defense Intelligence Agency was sentenced to 240 months in jail following his guilty plea in August to one count of producing child pornography and one count of attempted coercion and enticement of a minor.

Frederiksen admitted to using messaging applications to communicate with underage girls, asking them to send illicit pictures and video clips.

According to court documents, a last year tip-off revealed to the local Criminal Investigation Command office in Virginia that the convict had been viewing suspected child pornography using his work computer. He was arrested in March and has been in custody since then.

Frederiksen joined the army in 1995 and is a graduate of the US Military Academy.

He holds a master's degree in nuclear physics and is the father of three children.

"When looking at his past influence on others, his positive attitude, loving nature, and when looking at his children and how he has raised them, almost no one sees a person that can commit the crimes which he has plead guilty to," his son said.
