Klinsmann named as 5th honorary captain of Germany national team

German Football Association has been named Jurgen Klinsman as the 5th honorary captain of the national team.

Former Germany forward and head coach Jurgen Klinsmann is named the 5th honorary team captain by the German Football Association. He was awarded by German chancellor Angela Merkel at a ceremony held on Thursday.

Klinsmann won the World Cup as player in 1990 and, as Germany's captain, he grabbed the 1996 European Championship.

The striker played 108 matches for Mannschaft, with 36 of them as captain. He later coached Germany to third place in their home World Cup in 2006.

Klinsmann has also worked at German giant Bayern Munich as manager in the 2008-2009 season before becoming head coach of the USA national football team in 2011.
