Chelsea have earned a precious 2-0 victory over their hosts Southampton at St Mary’s, to move into 4th place and within a point of the Premier League summit.
The London Blues took an early lead when Eden Hazard availed himself of poor marking, powering a shot from a tight angle, while nutmegging keeper Fraser Forster.
Southampton had plenty of position but could not make a difference against Chelsea’ s well-organized back-line, and paid the price for that, by conceding the second after the restart when striker Diego Costa delivered an impressive curled effort from 22 yards.
Chelsea recorded their fourth successive win in the Premier League under Antonio Conte’s new 3-4-3 system.
