Russia has reenacted a historic battle which took place near Moscow during the 1812 Napoleonic war.

Thousands from Russian historical reenactment clubs reconstructed the fight. Participants playing French and Russian troops attacked each other with artillery, infantry and cavalry.

It was the final battle on such a grand scale fought between Napoleon’s army and the Imperial Russian Army. Some 6 thousand soldiers were killed during the battle, and Russians consider it a victory and a turning point in the war, as Napoleon’s army began its withdrawal afterwards.
