AFC U-19 Championship: Iran beat Uzbekistan 2-0 to reach semis

Iran have posted a 2-0 victory over Uzbekistan to book their spot in the semi-finals of the AFC Under-19 Championship and also qualify for next year’s FIFA Under-20 World Cup in South Korea.

The Iranians made a strong start to the quarterfinal encounter in Manama, Bahrain and managed to take the lead after only 13 minutes when Reza Jafari slammed the ball into the roof of the net following a free-kick from Abolfazl Razzaghpour.

The Uzbeks pressed hard for an equalizer but they faced a resolute defensive performance by Iran who doubled their lead early into the second half.

It was Jafari himself who slotted the ball into the back of the net for his 2nd goal of the match as Iran held on to beat the Uzbeks 2-nil to reach the semis where they will face Saudi Arabia on Thursday. With the win Iran also book their spot in the 2017 FIFA under-20 World Cup in South Korea.
