'Day of Dead' festival celebrated in Mexico City

Mexicans have attended the annual ‘Day of the Dead’ parade in the capital Mexico City. This is one of the most important holidays of the year in the country.

The feast has attracted thousands of people to Mexico City. Day of the Dead is celebrated throughout Mexico. During the ceremony, people pay their respects to friends and family members who have died.

Traditionally, people believe the souls of the dead, return every year for a twenty-four-hour visit. The festivities have existed since the pre-Hispanic era and fuses modern Mexican culture with that of the pre-colonial times.

The holiday used to be observed in the beginning of summer, but following the Spanish colonization, the date was changed.
