The three-time world champion Lewis Hamilton has taken pole position for the United States F1 Grand Prix, by posting the fastest time in qualifying.

The Brit clocked the circuit of the Americas with a blistering time of 1 minute and 34.999 seconds, to claim the 58th pole of his carrier. He edged out his Mercedes teammate and rival Nico Rosberg by 0.216 seconds as the Silver Arrows reeled off their 10th front row lockout of the year.

Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo finished in 3rd, followed by teammate Max Verstappen and the Ferrari pair of Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel.

Hamilton now trails Rosberg by 33 points and Sunday’s race will be vital for the Brit as there are only 100 points available in the 4 remaining races.
