US leaves behind failed states wherever intervenes: Analyst

The Kremlin has highlighted Russia’s commitments to Syria, saying it seeks to avert the war-stricken country's breakup and rid it of terrorists.

Mike Harris, editor of Veterans Today, believes the Kremlin is “spot-on” in its comments about Syria because wherever the United Sates intervenes, it becomes a failed state providing the ground for the spread of terrorist groups.

“You look where the US has intervened whether it is Libya or Iraq or Afghanistan and they leave behind every place the US intervenes as a failed state and that is a right ground, it is a fertile ground for terrorist organizations to grow,” the analyst told Press TV.

“If you look at all of the countries out there, the Arabic countries, Syria was the model. It was a secular regime, it was religiously tolerant. Christians were welcome, Jews were welcome, various aspects of Islam were welcome. There was no strife, there was no sectarian violence, it was a solid, sound secular regime and it needs to be protected,” he said.

He also argued if Washington was true in its pronounced constitutional values, it would be supporting President Assad not trying to take him out.

Syria has been gripped by foreign-backed militancy since March 2011.

Moscow and Washington support opposing sides in the conflict.

Russia has been conducting airstrikes against Daesh and other terrorist groups in Syria upon a request by the Damascus government since last September.

The US and its allies have also been carrying out their own airstrikes against what they call Daesh positions in Syria and neighboring Iraq since 2014.
