A Russian Soyuz spacecraft has docked with the International Space Station two days after launch.

The spacecraft completed its docking maneuver after blasting off from Kazakhstan on Wednesday. The Soyuz MS-02 had an American astronaut and two Russian cosmonauts on board.

They joined the 3 lab crew at the ISS after a warm welcome. The new crew’s two-day journey included orbiting the Earth 34 times while testing upgraded spacecraft system.

They will spend about four months at the ISS before returning home in late February 2017. They are expected to carry out many experiments in various fields aboard the station.
