US undermining Syria peace by abetting terrorists: Analyst

A former US army officer says the United States, particularly the Obama administration, has been working against peace in Syria by abetting terrorist groups in the Arab country.

Scott Bennett said in an interview with Press TV that Washington, along with some of its European allies, has been consistently working against restoration of peace to Syria by training and financing terrorist groups in the country.

“The United States, Germany and France are well aware of terrorists’ standard operating procedure, because they have trained the al-Nusra, ISIS (an alternative name for Daesh) and all terrorist elements, giving them CIA and US military training in Jordan," and providing them with money and weapons, he added.

Bennett said he was not surprised that terrorist groups in Syria have refused to lay down their arms after a humanitarian pause was officially announced in the country by Syrian government and Russia to allow civilians and foreign-backed militants to leave the war-wracked city of Aleppo.

The Syrian army has called on terrorists to lay down their weapons, but the Jabhat Fateh al-Sham terrorist group, formerly known as al-Nusra Front, which is an affiliate of al-Qaeda in Syria, has pledged to continue fighting.

There have been reports of gunfire in an area designated by Syrian government and Russia as a humanitarian corridor for civilians to leave Aleppo with Syria's SANA news agency blaming terrorist groups for the gunfire.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Bennett noted that the United States must use more psychological warfare tools against the terrorist groups in order to sow discord among their ranks and undermine their position in the country.
