Obama tells Trump to ‘stop whining’ before 2016 game is over
Democratic US President Barack Obama has censured GOP nominee Donald Trump for his repeated remarks that the 2016 vote is “rigged” in favor of his rival, Democratic candidate Hilary Clinton.
Obama made the comments in response to a question at a joint news conference in the White House Rose Garden after meeting with Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi on Tuesday.
Democrats argue that Trump’s repeated warnings about a “rigged” vote on November 8 come in the wake of his drop in polls in an attempt to justify a possible loss in advance.
"I'd invite Mr. Trump to stop whining and go try to make his case to get votes." Obama said, adding that “no serious" person who could suggest that the US election could be rigged.
Such an attitude, Obama said, "doesn't really show the kind of leadership and toughness that you want to have in a president. You start whining before the game is even over?"
"If whenever things are going badly for you and you lose you start blaming somebody else, then you don't have what it takes to be in this job."
The real estate tycoon’s drop in polls followed release of a scandalous recording from 2005, in which he is heard bragging about sexually assaulting women.
The lewd comments drew harsh criticism from the US authorities and even the Republican leaders.
The release was followed by another batch of files containing Trump's sexually offensive remarks, including one in which he allows a radio host to offend his daughter, Ivanka, on air.
