Some in UN Security Council back Israel against Palestinians: Activist

UNESCO has passed a resolution slamming the Israeli regime for hindering Palestinians’ freedom of worship at the al-Aqsa Mosque compound in the occupied East Jerusalem al-Quds.

On Tuesday, UNESCO condemned the Tel Aviv regime for “escalating aggression and illegal measures” against the Palestinian worshipers at the mosque. A draft of the resolution, titled “Occupied Palestine,” had already been approved by the UNESCO commission last week.

In an interview with Press TV, Paul Larudee, co-founder of the Free Palestine Movement from Berkeley, said, “The actions of a body like the UNESCO may be unpleasant for the Israeli regime, but it is one of the few places where nations of the world actually can say what they really think about Israel and do some maybe minor actions.”

Larudee criticized the process of decision making in the United Nations Security Council, where certain states misuse their veto power to block any move against the Israeli regime.

“Israel has a veto [in the UN Security Council], when I say Israel has a veto, I mean, the United States has a veto because essentially there is no difference, the United States will do whatever Israel asks of it,” the activist said.

“Most of the nations of the world are opposed to Israel and its actions in the region and its ethnic-cleansing actions against the Palestinians,” but nothing substantive happens without the UN Security Council, he said.

“If there were to be a General Assembly, I think, you would have the majority of the members of the United Nations conquering with these views and condemning Israel,” he said.

The US, its European allies and particularly the Tel Aviv regime itself are well aware that the way the Palestinians are being treated in the occupied territories is full of “injustice,” Larudee stated.
