Iran women's national futsal team has suffered a narrow loss at the hands of the strong Russian side in a friendly match in the Iranian capital city of Tehran.

On Sunday evening, the Iranian squad put in enormous efforts at Handball Sports Hall in northern Tehran to emerge triumphant, but fell short and lost the match 3-5.

Fahimeh Zare’i scored Iran’s opener in the third minute, before Fatemeh Papi doubled the Persians’ advantage nearly a quarter of an hour later and was on target in the 17th minute.

But Russians delivered a better performance, and were ahead 3-2 at the end of the first half.

The Iranian futsal players sought to stamp their class on the court after the break, and Fatemeh Etedadi scored Iran’s third goal in the 38th minute.

The Russian sportswomen, however, found the back of Iran’s net twice in the second half and defeated the hosts 5-3 at last.

The defeat came a day after Iranian futsal players had snatched a three-three draw against the Russian outfit in their first friendly encounter.
