Slovakia's Peter Sagan has won the men's elite UCI Road World Championship for the second straight year in Doha, Qatar.

Sagan, who has won seven Tour de France stages, managed to successfully retain his title after beating fierce rival and 2011 champion Mark Cavendish to the line in the 257 kilometer race, while Belgium's Tom Boonen ended his day in third.

With the huge win, the 26 year-old Slovakian became the first back-to-back champion of the race since Italian Paolo Bettini, who won in 2006 and 2007 respectively.
