Car explosion kills one person in Tel Aviv

A man has been killed in a car explosion in Tel Aviv, the capital of the Israeli-occupied Palestinian territories, with regime sources denying the incident had any links to the Palestinians.

Israelis said Sunday that the car burst into flames while it was inside a parking lot on a busy street in Tel Aviv around afternoon local time.

Paramedics said the man was in the car when it exploded and that he had suffered multiple injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident, they said.

Israeli police said they have launched an investigation into the incident. The police did not elaborate on the identity of the explosion victim, neither was there any comment on the materials that caused the blast.

Israeli media quoted unnamed officials as saying that the explosion was apparently a criminal act and there was no indication it could be related to the Palestinians.

Israeli settlers and security forces in the occupied territories have been the target of a series of alleged stabbing and car ramming attacks by the Palestinians since October last year when a new uprising began against Israeli plans to change the status quo of al-Aqsa Mosque, a highly revered site for the Muslims which is located in the occupied East Jerusalem al-Quds.

Israel has killed many Palestinians on suspicion of such attacks over the past months, triggering violent protests and demonstrations across the occupied West Bank and other areas. The crackdown has left more than 200 Palestinians dead while Israel claims over two dozen of Israeli settlers and forces, along with a number of foreigners, have also died in the attacks.
