Iran’s Petrochimi thumps Al Ahli for 3rd place at FIBA Asia Cup

Iranian professional club Petrochimi Bandar Imam has finished in the third place at the end of its crusade in the 25th edition of Fédération Internationale de Basketball (FIBA) Asia Champions Cup.

The Iranian club settled for the third-place spot on Sunday following a resounding 100-74 (18–17, 22–18, 31–19 and 29–20) win over Al Ahli of the United Arab Emirates at the Chenzhou Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium in the south central Chinese city of Chenzhou.

American former National Basketball Association (NBA) player Samuel Young netted 43 points and 10 rebounds for Al Ahli.

Petrochimi’s 20-year-old Behnam Yakhchali Dehkordi clinched 22 points on the back of 4 three-pointers, while Gerald Robinson notched up 21 points and 7 assists.

Xinjiang Flying Tigers of China defeated Lebanon’s Al Riyadi 96-88 (26–19, 22–21, 25–15, and 33–23) in the final showdown to claim the title of the champions cup.

The 25th edition of the FIBA Asia Champions Cup started in Chenzhou on October 8 and wrapped up on October 16.

The FIBA Asia Champions Cup, previously known as the Asian Basketball Confederation (ABC) Champions Cup until 2002, is the Asian club championship for professional basketball. It is organized by FIBA Asia, and takes place once a year.
