An American wildlife rehabilitator has become globally known for his hands-on approach to helping injured and unwanted animals.

‘Jim Kowalchik’ has been rehabilitating squirrels, ducks, deer, minks and other animals together since the early 1990s. He is now horsing around with his 1500-pound bear named ‘Jimbo’.

The rehabilitator has cared for Jimbo for almost 23 years. Jimbo is among the 11 bears living at Kowalchik’s nonprofit Orphaned Wildlife Center.

He says his main goal is to release animals, but the bears cannot be released because of injuries or because they are so used to captivity.
