Germany’s Nico Rosberg has extended his championship lead over Mercedes teammate and rival Lewis Hamilton to 33 points by winning the Japanese F1 Grand Prix.
Roseberg, who started from pole at Suzuka on Sunday, grabbed the crucial 25 points with a time of 1 hour, 26 minutes and 43.333 second as Mercedes secured the constructors' championship for the 3rd straight year.
And for Hamilton, it was just not his day again as he made an awful start in the race and dropped back to 8th place in the opening lap.
The Brit, however, managed to climb back into 3rd place by the end of the event. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen finished in second place, 4.9 seconds behind Rosberg while Ferraris of Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen finished in 4th and 5th places respectively.
Rosberg’s 9th victory of the season means that the German can now afford to finish second behind Hamilton in all the remaining races and still win the title.
