England have posted a comfortable 2-nil win over Malta at Wembley, in interim manager Gareth Southgate’s first game in charge.

Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge made the most of a cross from club teammate Jordan Henderson on the half-hour mark to give England the lead with a header.

Dele Alli then grabbed the 3-Lions’ second goal with 7 minutes remaining in the first half to help his side secure all the 3 points. England are now 2 points clear of Scotland at the top of Group F.
