Sydney’s Taronga Zoo has celebrated its 100th birthday by treating its animals with celebratory snacks and the public with interesting shows.

The iconic zoo was opened in 1916. Now it has become one of Sydney’s main tourist attractions over the course of a century.

To celebrate the opening anniversary, the zoo animals were spoiled in front of some five thousand lucky ticket winners.

The festivities kicked off with the keepers chanting “Happy Birthday” in the presence of the zoo’s Fiordland Penguin.

During the celebrations, the zoo’s giraffes were treated with olive branches in the form of the number 100 while koalas munched on eucalyptus leaves.

While the event mostly dealt with celebrations, the show also meant to raise awareness regarding animal conservation.
