US Democrats, Republicans two sides of the same coin: Analyst

There is no major difference between Republican and Democratic parties in deciding US foreign policy, because both major parties are serving the same interests of the political elite, says Renato Velez, a Middle East affairs expert.

Speaking to Press TV on Wednesday, Velez noted that a recent presidential debate between vice presidents of the Democratic and Republican nominees of the 2016 US presidential election proved the fact that Donald Trump, the Republican candidate, is not an outsider to the establishment.

According to the analyst, Trump’s running mate Mike Pence seems to be a member of neocons, who support Washington’s warmongering policies in Iraq and Libya, and back terrorist groups in Syria.

He also quoted the former US president, Jimmy Carter, as saying it does not matter to the United States which ruling party wins the country's presidential elections, because the Republican and Democrat camps both serve the same interests.

“The American system is well established to serve the interest of the ruling class of the United States,” Velez added, noting that the problem of the American people is their lack of knowledge to support a third party.

Democrat Tim Kaine, Hillary Clinton's running mate, and Pence engaged in the vice-presidential debate at Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia, on Tuesday.

Commenting on Syria, Pence called for US attacks against the Syrian government unless Russia stops its campaign aimed at retaking the strategic city of Aleppo.

Kaine accused Trump of mistaking “leadership for dictatorship” by supporting Russian President Vladimir Putin.
