West policies behind refugee crisis: Analyst

A political analyst says the West's policy of wreaking havoc in the Middle Eastern countries on behalf of its regional allies should be blamed for the refugee crisis.

The Western powers “are behind the policy of smashing the Middle East on behalf of Saudi Arabia and Israel, because they are the two countries, which benefit from the Takfiri, Daesh abominations,” Rodney Shakespeare, a political commentator, told Press TV’s Top 5 program.

Shakespeare said he is of the opinion that the acts of those states who have created the refugee crisis should be addressed, because the issue is more important than the problem of those who refuse to fulfill their obligation on the crisis.

Amnesty International has accused rich countries of "shirking" their responsibilities on refugees, slamming what it called the selfishness of wealthy nations.

In its annual report released on Tuesday, the London-based human rights body said just 10 countries are sheltering 56 percent of the world's refugees and they are among the poorest nations.

Shakespeare touched upon the role of the US’s regional allies in creating the refugee crisis, noting that Saudi Arabia, Israel and Qatar are at the center of the crisis, because they are supporting the Takfiris, who are spreading terrorism throughout the Middle East and also force people to flee from their homelands.

Saudi Arabia backs instability in Syria, Iraq and Yemen, while the kingdom refuses to takes any refugee at all, he said, adding that the creators of the refugee crisis are the United States and its European allies, because they are behind regimes who are wreaking havoc in independent countries.

The Western policy toward the Middle East is not only morally but also politically wrong, he noted, calling on the West to stop supporting “medieval barbarities” carried out by mercenaries backed by Saudi Arabia, Israel and Qatar.

Referring to the situation of refugees in European countries, he said, Europe is facing a gross economic failure; thus, the Europeans refuse to accept refugees to avoid further economic pressures.

He added, “The United Kingdom is not fulfilling its duty and we are one of the causes of the refugee crisis.”

Amnesty proposed that the burden of hosting refugees be shared out fairly, according to each country's land mass, wealth and current population.

Across the world, many observers blame the policies of Western powers on a surge in terrorism and war in North Africa and the Middle East that have forced people to flee their homes.
