Ferrer off to winning start at Beijing Open tennis
Spaniard David Ferrer has prevailed in his 1st round encounter with Pablo Cuevas of Uruguay.
Ferrer defeated his South American opponent in straight sets, to make his way into Round 2. He broke Cuevas to take the opening set 6-4, and sealed the match on his 2nd match point in a tie-break.
With the win, the 5th seed, extended his head-to-head record against Cuevas to 4-0, in what was the pair’s 1st clash on hard court. Ferrer will next take on either Viktor Troicki of Serbia or Italian Fabio Fognini.
