Lewis Hamilton has taken pole position in qualifying for the Malaysia F1 Grand Prix.

Hamilton was dominant throughout the race on Saturday and clocked the Sepang circuit with a blistering time of 1 minute 32.850 to claim his 57th pole of his career and 8th of the season. It was also his Mercedes team's 51st pole from 54 races.

Germany’s Nico Rosberg, who has an 8-point advantage over Hamilton in the overall standings, finished second with Red Bull’s Max Verstappen back in 3rd.

Australian Daniel Ricciardo will start alongside Red Bull team mate Verstappen from the second row.

Hamilton will now have a great chance to close the championship gap on his rival in Sunday’s race after losing lead to the German at the Singapore Grand Prix.
