Trump vows to go after Hillary-Bill Clinton's marriage
Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump says he will soon launch a new line of attack against Hillary Clinton over her husband’s past infidelities, adding that his Democratic rival is “nasty” but he could be “nastier.”
"She's nasty," Trump told The New York Times in an interview published Friday night, "but I can be nastier than she ever can be."
The comments were part of a wide-ranging interview in which Trump pushed back against his own record in treating women and defended his performance at the first presidential debate.
“Hillary Clinton was married to the single greatest abuser of women in the history of politics,” Trump said. “Hillary was an enabler, and she attacked the women who Bill Clinton mistreated afterward. I think it’s a serious problem for them, and it’s something that I’m considering talking about more in the near future.”
The White House hopeful said the issue would worsen Hillary Clinton's likeability with female voters.
After Monday’s debate, Trump boasted of his decision not to bring up the issue of former President Bill Clinton’s sexual affairs, saying it would have been "inappropriate" and "not nice."
However, the real estate tycoon told The Times that he had the right to attack Clinton’s infidelity as he never engaged in the same behavior.
Trump claimed that none of his three marriages were plagued by infidelity, even though his first one ended in a divorce after he reportedly began having an affair with the woman who would become his second wife.
"No — I never discuss it. I never discuss it. It was never a problem," he said, when pressed about his own troubled marital history.
The comments came as Clinton has ramped up her sexism accusations against Trump.
