The championship leader made a perfect start on Friday and was fastest on each of the twisty and bumpy stages in his Volkswagen Polo R.

The Frenchman completed the first of the 3-day competition with a 44 second advantage over Huyndai’s Thierry Neuville of Belgium.

Jari-Matti Latvala ended the final stage 10.6 seconds further back. The Finnish driver took third place in his Polo R, 14 seconds behind Neuville. The drivers will face 169kms of bumpy mountain roads on Saturday in the north of the island.
