Three people have been killed and another person injured in a shooting in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in what seems to be a domestic homicide.

The incident, which happened in an apartment near Lake Nokomis on Friday, left a man and two teenagers, a male and a female, dead, police said.

The shooting also left an adult woman injured. She was taken to a hospital with significant injuries.

Officials did not provide further details about the incident, but said investigation was underway.

"It wouldn't be fair to start making speculations about, you know, exactly what happened," Police spokesman Corey Schmidt said. "But what I can tell you is that we are not looking for a suspect and there is no threat to the public safety."

According to police records, the area rarely sees violent crime and that the last homicide there happened in 2012.

“People just don’t think about that kind of thing here,” said Christine Boos, 43, who was born and raised in the Nokomis neighborhood. “Most people who are from here never leave.”

According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), firearms are the cause of death for more than 33,000 people in the US every year, a number that includes accidental discharge, murder, and suicides.

The US Constitution's Second Amendment protects the right to bear arms with gun rights groups, including the National Rifle Association (NRA), asserting that restrictions on gun purchases would not improve public safety.
