New Zealand has opened what appears to be the world's first private launch complex for orbital space flights.

The country aims to launch more satellites into space than any other nations. Meanwhile, local media say that once the first rocket is launched by the end of 2016, New Zealand will become the world's 11th space nation.

New Zealand plans to use the facility to launch its Electron rocket, that is intended to carry small satellites and other small payloads. The site is qualified to conduct a launch every 72 hours.
