American golfing legend Arnold Palmer dies at age of 87

American golfer Arnold Palmer, who is seen as one of the greatest players in the sport's history, has died at the age of 87.

Palmer, who has claimed 90 international tournaments, including 62 victories on the PGA Tour, starting in 1955, passed away in his hometown of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

His unrivaled popularity on the course, and also at attracting fans, helped promote the game into the television age.

Palmer notched 7 major titles over 7 seasons at the peak of his sporting career, between the late 1950s and early 1960s.
