Chaos in Mideast serves Israeli interests: Analyst

An analyst says “chaos, hatred, discord and suffering” in the Middle East serve the interests of the Tel Aviv regime.

“That is why it [Israel] is happy to see this terrible conflict in Syria because it means that there is no government or central government strong enough to oppose its efforts in the region,” said Mark Weber, the director of the Institute for Historical Review.

The analyst added that Israeli leaders, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, know they have the backing of the United States, therefore they do not care about the world opinion and humanitarian concerns.

This comes as Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem has censured certain governments in the Middle East and the West for taking advantage of the humanitarian sufferings of Syrians to reach their political objectives.

The Syrian foreign minister said Syria’s confrontation with mercenary terrorism was not new as the country had for long confronted the terrorism of Israel, which occupied the Golan Heights in 1967.

He said Israel was intervening militarily in Syria to assist terrorists operating in the Golan Heights.

The top Syrian diplomat called on the international community to pressure Israel to conform to UN resolutions that guarantee Syria’s sovereignty over Golan.

US policy on Syria mishmash

Elsewhere in his remarks, Weber referred to the US policy on Syria as a “mishmash” and a “horrible mess”.

“The US repeatedly has been calling for a ceasefire in the Syrian conflict. The motive supposedly is humanitarian, but the real motive is to try to legitimize forces that are opposed to the Syrian government,” he stated.

“The United States is still committed to removing the Bashar al-Assad government in Syria and trying to replace it with a government that is going to be attractable or amenable to US interests and policy in the region,” he added.

The analyst argued if the US was really interested in opposing the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group, it would have worked with Syria, Iran and Russia to confront it.

Syria has been gripped by deadly foreign-backed militancy since March 2011. Over the past few months, the Takfiri militants active in the Arab country have suffered major setbacks as the Syrian army has managed to liberate several areas.
