1000 people compete in carving watermelon in east China province

Watermelon carving.

Fruit carving is one of the oldest traditions in some countries. Watermelon carving is the most popular in China.

Over 1,000 participants including local residents, corporate staff, students and foreigners have taken part in the event in Zhejiang Province. They carve self-designed patterns on the surface of watermelons.

The fruits are then fitted with colorful lights and shine like a twinkling star in the sky on the backdrop of darkness.
