FIFA has named former Netherland striker Marco van Basten as its new chief officer for technical development.

The Dutchman will head up all technical areas from football technology innovation to refereeing and coaching standards.

The former Ajax and AC Milan player’s appointment comes a month after he resigned as assistant coach of his national team. He is set to work with former Croatian football midfielder Zvonimir Boban. FIFA President Gianni Infantino has hailed this appointment.
