US Senate support for Saudi arms deal totally obscene: Pundit

Press TV has conducted an interview with James Fetzer, lecturer at University of Minnesota Duluth, about the US Senate finally endorsing a military deal with Saudi Arabia worth of $1.15 billion.

Here is a rough transcription of the interview:

Press TV: Do you agree that the Saudis need to be armed in order to check what is called “Iranian aggression”?

Fetzer: The situation is absurd. The Senate has just voted 100-0 to allow American citizens to sue Saudi Arabia because of the evidence that Saudi Arabia was involved in the attack on 9/11.

How can we possibly describe Saudi Arabia as an ally of the United States? Not only that, but it is well-known that Saudi Arabia is a principle supporter of the Wahhabi Islamic extremism and of ISIS (Daesh) and it terroristic activities while we have Barack Obama poised to veto the bill that would allow American citizens to sue Saudi Arabia, we should be providing them with the billions of dollars of new weapons; this is completely obscene.

Press TV: Many people say, the lawmakers, those who are opposed obviously to the sale, say that it is still progress at least that this conversation at least occurred in public. Do you agree with that?

Fetzer: It shows the American Congress at bottom zone. We have got Senator Bob Corker declaring this is a sale that benefits us, even though Corker admitted that Saudi Arabia is not a perfect ally and that many civilians have been killed in Yemen. We even have reports that the Saudis are using tactical nuclear weapons in Yemen.

This is completely outrageous. The Houthi effort there is a populist uprising against a tyrannical government. The United States once again is on the wrong side of history.

Press TV: Do you see any time down the road in the future that the Saudis and the Americans in fact will be held to account for these arm sales going to a dictatorship?

Fetzer: Not as long as you have a continuation of the George Bush, Dick Cheney, Barack Obama, Joe Biden foreign policy which Hillary Clinton epitomizes. Hillary has been selling the State Department and its support for money which makes her a political prostitute. If she were to be elected, God forbid what the future will hold. She has already declared that if she becomes President, she is going to bomb Iran but how grotesque, what an absurdity, what complete atrocity, the very idea she could become the President of this most powerful country in the world is beyond belief.
