Startup in US uses robots to make pizza

Zume Pizza is one of a growing number of food-tech firms seeking to disrupt the restaurant industry with software and robots.

Food-tech firms are seeking new methods to help grow their businesses. Now a startup in the US is introducing robots and software to make pizzas.

The startup in the Silicon Valley will soon add robots to prepare the dough, add cheese and toppings, take pizza out of the oven, cut them into slices and put them in boxes. Engineers say their biggest innovation will begin this fall with a delivery truck, equipped with 56 ovens to bake pizzas en route to customers.

The company also plans to shorten delivery times using software to anticipate when and what kind of pizzas customers will order. Experts say automation like this looks set to grow in restaurant kitchens, but they insist robots still struggle with tasks that require more skills.
