Press TV has conducted an interview with Ibrahim Mousawi, a political analyst, to discuss the remarks made by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, saying absolute distrust in hegemonic powers topped by the United States is an important component of Iran's soft power.

Here is a rough transcription of the interview:

Press TV: Well the Leader of the Islamic Revolution made several points saying that there is no reason to actually enter negotiations with Washington because it cannot be trusted, your take sir.

Mousawi: Well absolutely. Let’s very simply try to dissect the position of the United States not only vis-à-vis the enemies but those who have put themselves in the shoes of their enemies to be the enemy of Iran and to be the enemy of Syria or of the revolutionary movements, the liberation movements, all of the countries that are steadfast against the American arrogance. Let’s see how they deal with their own friends.

They simply desert their supporters and their friends, they deal with them in highly skepticism and in [conspiratorial] ways, even the allies that they have. We know what happened, take Turkey for example as a recent example with the coup d'état that happened in Turkey and was sabotaged it did not succeed. The Americans were the number one accused in the conspiracy against Turkey yet Turkey is part of the NATO. So if they do plans and plots and conspiracies against their own allies, how about others who really oppose them from a basic principle issue?

When it comes to Iran, when it comes to the call of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, of the Islamic Republic, we have to understand that he is really spreading the awareness about the reality of the American conspiracy, about the reality of the American position. Yes, they tell you they want to negotiate, let’s sit together and try to do something but we know that the bottom line is conspiracy. It is not about the conspiracy theory that we study in political science but it is something that has been put in effect. The United States has been doing this for [a] long time.

Now take for example what is happening in Syria, another example with these continuous attempts to reach a certain kind of political truce or a military truce and political solution or political compromise. The Russians keep saying every day and this is one of the superpowers in the world, we know that the United States is the number one but Russia has been with the Soviet Union previous, a very important one, they are lying to the Russians. They are not putting into effect what they do in agreements.

So I believe that what the Leader is saying is very important at this point because we have this, what’s called he soft war. They are trying as much as they can to say that they are peaceful but at the same time they are trying to isolate Iran and they are trying to detach Iran from its capabilities.

Press TV: What is your take because you just brought up a couple of interesting points, one of them talking about actually the Russians are also now experiencing the situation that the Americans cannot be trusted, they are not keeping their word, so if this is the case, if they cannot be trusted, if they are not keeping their word, where do you see powers such as Iran or Russia or others, the stand that they should take when dealing with the United States because of course United States is flexing its muscle and usually involved in different type of either political negotiation, military negotiation, so even if we look at the situation for example in Syria right now or Yemen or elsewhere, so what stand should for example a country like the Islamic Republic of Iran then take if they are dealing with an entity that cannot be trusted?

Mousawi: Firmness, internal firmness, steadfastness and they should continue to have their fixed position. They should listen and they should follow the directions, the directives, the guidance of the Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, they should raise as much as they can their capabilities, their military prowess because this is a place where they only respect the strong ones.

We all know very well they have been intimidating and they have been threatening Iran for its nuclear capabilities though they know very well that they are for peaceful means yet they continue to threaten Iran. They only accepted to sit at the negotiating table because Iran is a very strong and powerful country, a very important geopolitical regional power and international power. That is why.

The steadfastness, the internal unity of the people behind the Leader is very important. There is universal war against Syria now. Yes, Iran is supporting Russia to a certain extent but there is universal war against Syria. The steadfastness of the people is helping a lot. They will tell you a lot of things but the people in Aleppo, we know that the Syrian government controls the most popular areas not the desert areas where the population is there. I believe … the population listening to the leadership is very important and raising the capabilities.
