Iran basketball team aces 2016 FIBA Asia Challenge

The Iranian men’s national basketball team has finished first at the 2016 Fédération Internationale de Basketball (FIBA) Asia Challenge, following an emphatic victory over the South Korean squad.

On Sunday evening, the Iranian sportsmen recorded a 77-47 win against the East Asians in a title match staged at Azadi Basketball Hall in western Tehran.

The Iranian squad got off to a sound start and accumulated most of the points to edge past the South Koreans 13-9 at the end of the first quarter.

The hosts extended their supremacy into the second quarter, and managed to outscore the visitors by 17 points to 11.

The Iranian players continued with their surge in the third quarter and claimed it 23-14.

The Iranians showed no sign of surrender after the interval, and eventually dominated the fourth quarter 24-13.

Hamed Haddadi scored 20 points for Iran men’s national basketball team, while South Korea’s Lee Seung-hyun charted 13 points.

The 2016 FIBA Asia Challenge, which marked the 6th edition of the international basketball tournament, started in the Iranian capital on September 9 and concluded on September 18.
