Cambodians celebrate the ‘Festival of the Dead’ in September every year. They offer food and prayers to the spirits of their ancestors.

The event is meant to pay respect to the family and friends who have passed away. Cambodians pay their respects to dead relatives of up to 7 generations. People take cakes and drinks and money to the temples.

Some believe that their family members may have become evil after they died, and therefore they could not receive the offering during day time. So they gather at temples before sunrise. The festival lasts 15 days.
