Press TV has interviewed Stephen Lendman, an author and radio host from Chicago, to discuss the civilian causalities due to the US airstrikes in Syria.

Here is a rough transcription of the interview:

Press TV: Talk to us about the Pentagon admitting that the airstrikes in Syria may have resulted in civilian casualties; critics say that it may have been more than this instance that they have been referring to.

Lendman: America considers civilians legitimate targets, the same way Israel considers civilians legitimate targets. We have no idea how many civilians America has killed in Syria alone since it began bombing in September 2014, minimally it’s many hundreds, it could be many thousands. The idea that it may be killing civilians is an insult to the people who have been murdered in cold blood by American imperialism.

Press TV: In cases when the United States admits to leaving behind civilian casualties, what happens next?

Lendman: Nothing… America gets away with anything it wants, the way Israel gets away with anything it wants, the way US-led NATO gets away with anything it wants. They make the rules, they decide policy. The rule of law doesn’t matter. It’s not the rule of law that matters, it’s Washington’s rules that matter.

Press TV: Russia and the United States are supposed to carry out further attacks against Daesh terrorists and other Takfiri terrorist groups in Syria. Will anything change now with regards to US' approach?

Lendman: Sergey Lavrov, the Russian foreign minister, criticized Washington for failing to attack al-Nusra, a Security Council-designated terrorist organization. Al-Nusra is al-Qaeda in Syria. America isn’t attacking Daesh either, America supports Daesh, supports al-Nusra, this is what America does. I think it was Russia’s foreign ministry today that said there have been 21 terrorist violations of the ceasefire. 21! That’s more than on an average day before the ceasefire took effect.
