Clinton leaves 9/11 memorial due to ‘medical episode’
US Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton abruptly left a memorial for the victims of the September 11, 2001 attacks, due to what her campaign described as feeling “overheated.”
“Secretary Clinton attended the September 11th Commemoration Ceremony for just an hour and thirty minutes this morning to pay her respects and greet some of the families of the fallen,” campaign spokesman Nick Merrill said in a statement on Sunday.
“During the ceremony, she felt overheated so departed to go to her daughter’s apartment, and is feeling much better,” he added.
The former first lady’s entourage helped her to a van after she fainted during the ceremony at New York's National September 11 Memorial & Museum, Fox News reported, citing a law enforcement source.
According to the report, Clinton stumbled off the curb while her "knees buckled" and lost a shoe as she entered the van.
“Clinton left the 9/11 ceremony 30+ mins ago but press pool was not told to where. Aides now not responding to any [questions] about her whereabouts,” ABC journalist Liz Kreutz said in a tweet.
Margaret Talev, a senior White House correspondent for Bloomberg, also confirmed that Clinton had left the event. However, she said they were unable to “verify [Clinton’s] status or location.”
The incident took place in an area that was off-limits for the press. Clinton’s Republican rival Donald Trump also attended the ceremony.
The incident further fueled speculations about Clinton’s well-being, an issue that has been haunting her ever since she suffered a blood clot in her brain in 2012.
A viral video on Youtube, with more than 3 million views, claims that she is suffering from a plethora of diseases such as autism and a brain tumor.
The rumors surrounding Clinton’s health gained more momentum after Trump questioned her well-being, saying that she “lacks the mental and physical stamina” to run the country.
US President Barack Obama’s former doctor Dr. David Scheiner told CNN in late August that the former secretary of state needs to take a thorough test.
