Stein: Trump, Clinton running ‘nightmare campaigns’
US Green Party presidential nominee Jill Stein has blasted her Republican and Democratic rivals, Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, for running “nightmare campaigns.”
During an interview with Fox News on Sunday, Stein denounced reports that had labeled her White House bid as a “fairy-tale candidacy,” saying unlike Trump and Clinton, she was standing for the ideals of American people.
“We are living with a couple of nightmare campaigns right now that the American people object to at absolutely unprecedented levels,” the candidate said.
"The American people are saying that politics as usual has been throwing them under the bus, and, in fact, the two major-party candidates have the highest rating of disapproval and distrust of any candidate anywhere at any time throughout our history," Stein added.
A tumultuous presidential election cycle has painted Clinton and Trump as two of the most unpopular candidates to have ever run for the White House.
According to the latest ABC News/Washington Post poll released last Wednesday, Clinton’s unpopularity among American voters has reached a new high, putting her on par with her Republican rival.
Registered voters partaking in the survey gave near-identical unfavorable ratings for the two nominees -- 59 percent for Clinton and 60 percent for Trump.
This ranks them as the two most unpopular US presidential nominees in more than 30 years.
Trump and Clinton’s unprecedented unpopularity has given third-party candidates like Stein and Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson a better chance of making it to the White House.
She made the remarks in response to a Washington Post editorial that had accused her of “spinning up a fairy tale” rife with “poorly formed and wildly impractical” policies.
At a time when Trump and Clinton are focusing on terrorism and immigration as the pillars of their campaign, Stein has openly denounced Israel and touts an emergency job program as her main platform.
She has pledged to create new job opportunities that will also address climate change and create an emergency transition to 100 percent renewable energy.
"Donald Trump says despicable things, but Hillary Clinton unfortunately has a record of doing many terrible things," she said during her Sunday interview.
