US, UN becoming political wing of Saudi war on Yemen: Activist

Press TV has conducted an interview with Hussain al-Bukhaiti, an activist and political commentator, about the leader of Yemen’s Houthi Ansarullah movement censuring the United States for providing logistical support and political cover for the Saudi bombardment campaign against Yemen.

Here is a rough transcription of the interview:

Press TV: This is an issue that has been divulged through the media on numerous occasions, the issue of US’s support for the Saudi attacks on Yemen. Abdul-Malik al-Houthi also addressed that in his speech. Talk to us about the address.

Bukhaiti: Of course what Abdul-Malik has said is exactly what is happening for over 500 days and we all remember that when the Saudi-led coalition launched the war on Yemen, they have announced the war from Washington, the capital of the United States, and a minute after, the White House has released a statement saying that they are in support of this [Saudi-led] coalition, they are going to support it with logistic and information and coordination.

So what Abdul-Malik has said is exactly what the United States has admitted and as well we have heard for the last 500 days, we have seen billions of dollars of new weapons sold to Saudis especially as they call it smart bombs and we know that American satellites and drones and US weapons and as well US refueling planes that are supporting the Saudis and as well US warships that are supporting and enforcing the blockade on the Yemeni people, all these, the United States has not denied it but on top of that they still keep doing the same thing and if we see all targets, most of the targets in Yemen are civilian targets and this coordination is given by the United States.

Just in the last 48 hours, they have killed about three entire families. Yesterday night in Hajjah they have killed 11 members of one family including seven children and as well 12 members of a family in Hajjah, northwest Yemen, and in Sa’ada they have killed 16 women and children in an attack on a three-storey house.

So I think that the United Sates is the one that has given the Saudis the green light to start this war and as John Kerry said in his latest meeting in Jeddah, he said that any peace in Yemen must respect Saudi security and he talked about the [Persian] Gulf security and he has not mentioned in his statement about the Yemeni people, about the 10,000 people who were killed directly by Saudi airstrikes and other 10,000 children who died because of the blockade.

So I think it is so clear to everybody that the United States is the one who started the war, the United States is the one who can stop the war, and what they did as well at the beginning of the war, they have enforced the Saudis to lead the Human Rights Panel side by side with the British and that happened straightaway after many attacks and many strikes on civilian targets in Yemen.

Press TV: Five hundred days of assistance and logistical support to the Saudis, parallel to that, five hundred days of silence from the international community and the United Nations. Has the international community failed the people of Yemen?

Bukhaiti: Most of the international community is part of this war and we have seen that when Saudi name and Saudi-led coalition was put inside the blacklist for violating the rights of children, it was the United States, Britain and other European countries that have [put] pressure on Ban Ki-moon and he admitted that in his statement and as well in many interviews.

So the international community as well has enforced 2216 UN Security Council resolution and the main goal of it is to force the blockade and as well they have welcomed the Saudi effort in Yemen and this 2216 has came after the war on Yemen.

So all these and as well with the direct help of the United States and as well with the direct help of our neighbors have enforced this blockade and we know that one of the articles in this 2216 has insisted on a ban and blockade for weapons that would reach Yemeni army and the Houthis and we know the Yemeni army and the Houthis side by side with the Popular Committee, they are the only force in Yemen that fought al-Qaeda, they are the only force that have cleared most of the south region and we have seen that straightaway after the Saudi-led invasion into Aden it was directly replaced by al-Qaeda and as well 2216 has not mentioned any weapons that was given by the Saudis to al-Qaeda and Daesh and other militia.

So the United States and the UN as well is biased and they are side by side with the Saudis and they are becoming the political wing of the Saudi aggression. And I just wanted to mention the goal of this war in Yemen was, as they say, to stop the threat that came from Yemen to the Saudi border.  There was no threat, there was not a single shot fired at the Saudi border but now we have seen a new missile, an upgraded Scud-C missile that could reach to 800 kilometers, so it could reach Riyadh, it could reach United Arab Emirates, it could reach Qatar. So I think in the coming days and weeks we will see more of these missiles.
