Lead from behind, Dems told on Black Lives Matter
In a newly leaked document, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) has advised the party’s candidates for the US House to limit public events with Black Lives Matter activists attending, further urging them to lead the movement “from behind.”
According to the document released by the hacker Guccifer 2.0 on Wednesday, the DCC wants the candidates not to back any of the BLM’s “concrete policy positions.”
Dated November 19, 2015, the memo also warned them to “be prepared” for protest, further providing them with a set of "best practices" in how to deal with embarrassing confrontations.
"Be a partner and lead from behind," it reads. "BLM activists don't want their movement co-opted by the Democratic Party. They are leary [sic] of politicians who hijack their message to win campaigns."
"If approached by BLM activists, campaign staff should offer to meet with local activists," it says. "Invited BLM attendees should be limited."
The DCCC released a statement following the leak, saying it would not "allow this hacking to distract from our common goals nor disparage the BLM movement."
"In less than two years, BLM has evolved from three words into a political force that is changing and waking our nation," spokeswoman Meredith Kelly said. "At the DCCC, we highly encourage our candidates to not only embrace the importance of this movement, but to meet with and listen to community activists to partner social change."
The movement began in protest of the US police brutality against the African American population following the high-profile deaths of unarmed black people in the hands of the police.
The newly released memo has been said to be linked to recent hacks of the Democratic organizations, blamed by the US on Russia.
Guccifer 2.0 claimed to have obtained the latest memo from the personal computer of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.
