US using Israel to spread imperialism: Analyst

The United States government uses Israel to spread its imperialist agenda across the world, says a political commentator in Boston, Massachusetts.

Daniel Patrick Welch made the comments on Wednesday, when asked about his views on America's attempts to disrupt the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement against Israel.

Lawmakers in the US state of California passed a law on Tuesday that aims to punish companies partaking in the boycott campaign.

The legislation, which was approved on Tuesday, seeks to prevent state government agencies from awarding contracts of $100,000 or more to companies that support the BDS.

“This is just the latest example of how far the US state will go to protect its pet project,” Welch told Press TV.

“You have to remember that Israel is basically a forward-positioned aircraft carrier, armed and dangerous, to project imperialist white supremacy across the Middle East and they are not going to let go of that project for anything,” he added.

Welch said the recent attempt to illegalize the BDS movement in California shows that the campaign is gaining more traction around the world and “Zionists” are not happy with that.

Initiated in 2005 by over 170 Palestinian organizations, the BDS has gone on to include thousands of organizations, companies and individuals worldwide who promote the Palestinian cause.

The campaign seeks to end the Israeli regime’s occupation of “all Arab lands” and has been targeted by similar legislation in several other states.

Over half a million Israelis live in more than 230 illegal settlements built since the 1967 Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories of the West Bank including East Jerusalem al-Quds.

Additionally, there are more than 6,500 Palestinians, including children, who are being held at Israeli jails.

“They [Zionists] have enormous power and money within the US state apparatus,” he said. “The other half of that is of course the kind of neoconservative imperialist impulse which just needs and aircraft carrier, a forward position, from which to launch its wars of aggression.”

He said while the BDS provided a good platform for people around the world to show their opposition to Israel’s atrocities, the real “struggle” was on the ground in Palestine.

The analyst said Western aggression in countries like Palestine, Syria and Libya needs to be repelled.

“Those are the things that threaten the existence of the planet and stability of the human race,” Welch added.
