UN's anti-Syria findings on chlorine gas attacks savage lies: Pundit

A general view of the United Nations Security Council

Press TV has conducted an interview with Steven Kelley, a former CIA contractor from Los Angeles, about the so-called findings of a UN-led investigation into the usage of chlorine gas in Syria in 2014 and 2015.

The following is a rough transcription of the interview.

Press TV: Just how valid and credible is this investigation by the United Nations?

Kelly: Well, obviously the first thing we've got to look at this panel because clearly these are savage lies and if anything we can throw out the legitimacy of this panel and I think ultimately you have to throw out the legitimacy of the United Nations the way this would appear. But I think that the panel, even what they’ve said, the only thing they really have to go on is the victims and there's so much evidence of Daesh using these crude weapons against the civilian populations of the areas that they control. That's really the only evidence that there is.

And I would really hope that the rest of the world would certainly become more vocal. Obviously Russia would deny this for them to suggest that they’re not sure about the findings. I think that's kind of weak. I think I would like to see a stronger reaction. I think china and some of the other countries involved should also be very vocal in expressing doubt in this legitimacy of these findings. So, I think again this is a great example the media needs to control these lies who just control the dialogue and instead of responding to these lies we need to change the dialogue and make the people look at something else other than these lies.

Press TV: Now for example if this report is rejected by Russia and of course other countries you name as China as well, what will be the likelihood of another investigation?

Kelley: I think the entire process of investigations is nonsense. And I think that this body, this so-called world body, is doing nothing but trying to prop up and provide ammunition for these imperialist powers that are trying to go into a combat footing from this incursion into Syria. And now they're looking for this as an excuse to expand and declare the de facto no-fly zone etc., etc. So, these are all PR maneuvers designed to manipulate the public to respond and basically become OK with these actions that they want to take. And again this is why it's so important for us to point out that these are lies and that this is nothing but a choreography to maneuver to try to start World War III and certainly to instigate a more forceful removal of the Assad government.

Press TV: And of course Syria, the Syrian ambassador accused several foreign countries of being involved in this chemical attack. What would be the political implications for those involved if it's found out?

Kelley: Well, again I think that's so important to point out because here we have this alleged objective panel trying to pin three occasions of use on to the Syrian Arab Army when we know that Daesh has done this numerous numerous times. And I don't think anybody is disputing (this fact). Even the panel recognized that this continues to happen and that most of the more heinous events where Daesh was responsible. So, certainly if they were using their judgment and their power proportionately then obviously they would be condemning Daesh in much much stronger terms than the way they would be condemning the Syrian Arab Army.
