Iran’s Sarmayeh Bank advances to AVC Club Volleyball Championship final

Iranian professional volleyball team Sarmayeh Bank has maintained its unblemished winning record at the 2016 Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Club Volleyball Championship in Myanmar, and managed to advance to the final showdown of the continental tournament.

On Tuesday, the Iranian squad overcame Shanghai Golden Age of China in straight sets, with the scores of 28-26, 25-16 and 25-21, in a semi-final match played in Myanmar’s capital Naypyidaw.

Sarmayeh Bank’s coach Mostafa Karkhaneh fielded Mehdi Mahdavi, Seyyed Mohammad Mousavi, Farhad Ghaemi, Milad Ebadipour, Farhad Zarif, Shahram Mahmoudi and Adel Gholami in the initial line-up.

Iran started the match more effectively, and managed to assert clear dominance on the court by means of fine spikes.

The Chinese volleyball players went to great length to narrow the deficit, but just fell short and the Iranian side took the first set 28-26.

Sarmayeh Bank volleyball team then extended its advantage as the match went into the second set, and widened the gap to ultimately close the set at 25-16.

Iranian sportsmen were in full throttle in the last set, and clinched the match 25-21.

Iran’s Sarmayeh Bank volleyball team will take on Qatari outfit Al Arabi in the final match on Wednesday.

The 2016 Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Club Volleyball Championship started in Naypyidaw, Myanmar, on August 23 and will conclude on August 31.

The awards and closing ceremonies will take place shortly after the title clash.

The winners of the prestigious continental tournament will represent Asia at the 2016 Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) Volleyball Men's Club World Championship.

The event which will be the 12th edition of its kind will be held in Betim and Belo Horizonte, Brazil, between October 17 and 23.
